I interpret silence with atmospheric photographs of landscapes. Light and shadow, the reduction to a few related elements, and the absence of color create moments that remind us of something we have long since lost—silence. In my view, silent breaks are not a waste of time but a massive gain for the mind.
Silence pertains not only to the absence of man-made noise but also to the distractions to which we are exposed around the clock. I capture these rare, quiet moments on black-and-white film and develop them into images in the darkroom. Paul Christener
