Both Humphries and Regisford are remixer DJs known for their residency at Club Zanzibar in New Jersey and their mix shows on Kiss FM and WBLS.

Stripped down to the bones

A few days ago, I found an image of six skeletons in my Twitter account. All were of the same size, weight, and bone thickness. The only difference was the caption under each skeleton: Black; White; Gay; Straight; Religious; Atheist. The descriptors can easily be changed to: Quiet; Loud; CEO; Worker; Charismatic; and so on. […]

Good Morning Utopia

Five a.m. – probably the most unwanted noise. Three, four times. What the hell? A hit on the snooze button. It’s quiet again – but the deep sleep is gone, leaving space for thoughts. In 1928, Henry Ford initialized and opened Fordlândia, an industrial city in the Amazonas. He wanted to save money in the […]

Winter hiking on Lofoten Island

It is damn cold. Heavy winds come from the north. Freezing rain hurts the small part of your face that isn’t covered by cap. Why would anyone decide to live here for a whole winter: here, on this empty beach on Lofoten Island? Wave after wave rolls in from the stormy Atlantic Ocean. The noise […]

A Quiet Moment in Iceland

“I live in a 420-square-foot studio. I sleep in a bed that folds down from the wall. When people come over for dinner, I pull out my extendable dining room table,” writes a guy named Graham Hill in his essay “Living with Less. A Lot Less,” which was published in The New York Times. A […]

You Can Take My House

„I do not know where you live,“ said Roell Ingvaldsen, a farmer who lives in one of the houses in Vikten, a little town on Lofoten Island, „but if you want, you can have my house and I will move into your house, no matter where it is.“ The sheep in Ingvaldsen’s barn behind his house, […]

A Storm In The Valley

In October 2011, heavy rainfall was responsible for an avalanche of boulders and mud. The avalanche went down from below Hockenhorn against Alp Heimritz, and was strong enough to move the Kander River for more than 30 meters (100 feet).

A Terrible Dream

A Terrible Dream

You are probably familiar with a terrible dream like this. You wake up in the middle of the night, wet and sweaty. A few moments pass until you realize it was a bad dream. It began near a lake at the beginning of winter, its surface already frozen. The ice is still thin, yet it […]

This Place Is A Shelter

“This song is kind of a tribute to my home, which I feel is a shelter that saves me from the madness of the world we have to endure every day,“ said Olafur Arnalds, a musician from Iceland when he was talking about one of his songs, “This place is a shelter.” Those sentences went […]
